PERFORMING disABILITY

5^th disABILITY MUNDUS doctoral school

July 2-5, 2017

This year’s doctoral school, Performing disAbility, is linked to the 6^th Annual Conference of ALTER-ESDR’s theme: ‘Disability, Recognition and “Community living”. Diversity of practices and plurality of values’. It is also linked to disABILITY MUNDUS a group of European academics and universities who are actively engaged in and support scholarly research on disAbility.

Our focus, Performing disAbility, is about bodily and societal performance, as can be seen in theatrical, dance and other creative expressions, sports, but also in administrative, and everyday processes of care. We take the position that this performative aspect of disability is highly complex, and perhaps disturbing and challenging. We invite participants who have completed at least one year of their PhD program and are in the process of researching issues in disability through policy, linguistics, the built environment, education, peoples, cultures and more.

To attend ‘Performing disAbility’ please send a 500 word abstract to Prof. P. Devlieger Patrick.Devlieger@soc.kuleuven.be by April 30^th.

The abstract must have the following:

• Title
• Contact information including your home university
• Expression of interest
• Stage of your PhD program
• Summary of your project focus (research question/s, aims, objectives)
• How ‘Performing disAbility’ fits with your research project

Participation is limited to 20 seats and delivery of the doctoral school is in English. Cost of participation is 95 € (lunches and coffee breaks).
